Photographer Bio : Sonam Zoksang was born in Kyidong, Tibet. He graduated from the Tibetan Institute for Higher Studies in Varanasi. In 1985 he moved to New York and joined a small Tibetan community in New York and New Jersey. He served as a president of the Tibetan Association and also of the Regional Tibetan Youth Association. He was on the board of directors of USTC (US Tibet Committee) and is a staunch supporter of SFT.
Zoksang taught himself photography and has traveled extensively during numerous trips to Tibet. He has done many slide presentations at various schools, universities, organizations, and communities about Tibet’s political and social situation. His work has been published in numerous magazines and he has exhibited his work in the United States, Canada, South America, Asia and Europe. His photographs have also been displayed in a Congressional building in Washington DC.
He lives in upstate New York with his wife and two children.
